Joo & Igudesman's superb return visit
The stellar music comedy act of Joo and Igudesman returned to the DFP for their second visit. Their first trip a few years ago saw them presenting 2 shows. This time, their KL stint featured the show entitled "Big Nightmare Music".
The duo had the backing of the MPO and the musicians were slightly dressed down in colourful and varied attire. A capacity audience turned out for this highly entertaining show.
There were some old skits like Mozart's Rondo Alla Turca, "Mozart-Bond", "Riverdance" and "We Will Survive", but there were also some new comic performances like jazzed up "Bessie the Cow", "For A Fistful of Dollars" and "The Last KungFu Violinist".
"Bessie the Cow" was also delightful, with Joo singing and improvising on the piano, whilst Igudesman made "moo" sounds using the violin.
For me, the most stunning portion of the whole show was when Igudesman performed Kreisler's Tambourin Chinois (a very difficult violin piece by itself). What Igudesman did was infinitely more difficult than Kreisler's original. To see him standing on one foot and performing the spiccato bowing with the bow arm under the raised right-leg was well worth the price of the ticket.
Perhaps the DFP can programme another Joo and Igudesman concert in future say like hiring them to do the "Mozart Will Survive" or the "8 to 88" skit show.
