Superb Spacek violin masterclass
Spacek imparts good words of advice
Josef Spacek took time off on 3 April 2014 from his schedule and helped 4 budding violin students with their pieces.
The students performed Dvorak's Violin Sonatina Op 100 (1st movement), Wieniawski's Legende Op 17, Kreisler-Pugnani's Praeludium and Allegro and also St Saens' Third Violin Concerto (1st movement).
His comments mainly helped the students with their bowing technique - which was generally less effective than their
left hand. Often, the pupils used too little bow and bow division was mostly badly utilised. There was little said about the left hand (intonation and vibrato) as the pupils were generally assured in their left-hand technique.
It was nevertheless great to watch the pupils improve under his tutelage and DFP is to be congratulated on organising this masterclass with Spacek. Let's hope that DFP continue to make more in-roads with musical education for the rising number of music pupils here in Malaysia.
