Superb Sleeping Beauty
The perennial loved conductor of film with live music from the MPO, Carl Davis completed the third installment of the Tchaikovsky set of three ballets. This time, he played Sleeping Beauty on 6 November 2010 - having performed Swan Lake and The Nutcracker in previous years.
As usual, the DFP projected the film onto the big screen over the orchestra (in the "pit"). There were some inevitable ensemble problems and timing within the orchestra and co-ordination with the film sequence. The Bolshoi ballet production was excellent but the film colours was slightly dated.
Again, Carl Davis provided the audience with yet another enjoyable night out. I wonder what other movie & music magic that Davis can unearth in future concerts in the years ahead.
